Got rid of the darn Asus T100 tablet

T100

I waited till the 5th to pay a visit to Sofmap to sell the Asus T100 tablet off. That's because days ending with the number 5 are called the "Sofmap中古日" which means if you decide to exchange the items for Sofmap points, you get a 5% boost on such days.

I hopped onto a train bound for Kawasaki after work on the Wednesday. There is a Sofmap support center in the Lazona shopping complex where they handle 買取 or purchases from their point of view. I went there and waited for my turn. When it was my turn, I handed over the tablet which was cleanly packed as it came from the factory, telling the staff personnel that the keyboard dock doesn't work properly. He made a serious face and told me that in that case there is a chance they might not accept the tablet at all or return the keyboard dock and take only the rest of the parts. I feared they would go with the former.

He took the tablet in for inspection and told me to come back in 30 minutes. That was short, probably because there weren't many people there and it was a weekday. I wandered around the Biccamera store checking out the cool gadgets during that 30 minutes.

I tried the Surface 3, Surface 3 Pro, MacBook 12 inch, Apple Watch, Xperia Z4, LG G4 and the deals for new phone connections. (I'm planning to switch from AU to Softbank soon.) To be honest, I wasn't impressed with any of those products. They all had issues.

When it was time for me to check back on the tablet, I headed back to the Sofmap support center and waited a bit for my turn. I handed over the chit of paper that they gave me earlier when I gave them the tablet. The guy, a new one this time, went in and returned after a minute. He had the keyboard dock in his hand. Good! So he is returning only the keyboard dock. I checked their assessment. JPY 17,050. That's a lot for the condition it was in.

The maximum I would have gotten is JPY 19,000. So they didn't even reduce JPY 2,000 for the keyboard dock and the scratches on the body of the tablet. It even had a dent on the back and kind of like dead pixels on the screen. And this was the money value of it. Since I had a Sofmap Premium card which adds 10% to the value on top of the 5% due to that day being a "中古日", I was to get 19,607 points if I switched to points. And that's what I did.

And that's the end of it. We don't have a tablet anymore. I do not have any immediate plans to buy a new tablet. Things might change in the coming months.

But right now, I have points to spend on stuff! Yay. What should I get? Fun times...
