[Rant] Got a BSOD on the Asus T100 Tablet

I've been quite silent about the tablet lately. That's because nothing mention worthy happened with it. In fact, I've not been using it much lately. It's slow, even though it has a BayTrail CPU - the latest Atom CPU from Intel. Maybe it is not slow for most people but I'm not most people. And the app experience sucks compared to my iPhone - mostly the browser.

In the last few days, I felt the tablet was running slower than usual. I've been keeping the drivers and firmware up to date. No need to mention that Windows Update is set to install updates automatically. I wonder if these updates have caused issues.

There is a community in Google Plus dedicated to Asus T100 users. I'm a member as well. Yesterday I decided to post about the slowdowns there. I posted it fine but soon after I posted it something unexpected happened. I got a BSOD. It's as if the tablet knew that I was getting to ready to do something about this issue and it didn't like it. There is a ghost in the machine.

Even more surprising was the BSOD code that I received. It said "KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE". I've not seen that error before in my life, even while I was overclocking my Haswell CPU - which easily gave more than 100 BSODs. When I checked around, people had recommended that you do a factory reset if you got this error. It could be due to corrupted files.

So I decided that it was time I did a restore. I first wanted to try Refresh. But it said some files were missing! Are my nightmares with the Dell Latitude 10 Essentials tablet coming back to haunt me? I quickly tried to do a complete factory reset. Luckily, it worked! Since it was late night, I let it do its thing and went to sleep. When I woke up, it was done and waiting for me to setup accounts and such. I quickly entered the required details and let it continue. Once I logged into desktop, I ran Windows Update. Since there were so many updates available to download, I let it do its thing and went to work.

Well, I don't know if the issue is fixed. We'll soon find out I guess. I should try to use the tablet more often. In fact, I'm typing this blog post on the tablet. I also am watching the India vs. Sri Lanka T20 World Cup practice map. I had been browsing for about an hour. So far so good. I hope it will remain the same for a long time.
