Microsoft has made trivial things so hard to do with their new iteration of Windows. One such thing is Shutdown/Reboot Windows.
How to shutdown the normal way
This is the normal way of doing it in Windows 8. You make use of the Charms. (BTW, they are not “Charming” to me at all)
You can bring up the corresponding Charm using two methods.
Method 1:
Press: Windows key + i
Method 2:
Move your mouse pointer to Top Right hand corner. A black strip will appear on the right edge of the screen. Click on the “Settings” icon (The bottom most icon) and it will bring the settings pane.
Obviously, if you are on a Desktop/Laptop environment, method 1 is easier and faster.
After that, you press the power icon.
The geek way
You press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and then press the power icon in the bottom right hand corner. Simple! Take that Microsoft!!!
Edit:
There is another method. In desktop mode, hit Windows + D to minimize all the apps and show up the desktop. Hit ALT + F4. You will be prompted with a Windows XP like Shutdown dialog.
